Fit Notes
Nike apparel is cut to a US athletic block, so most tees, shorts, and hoodies land true to size on an average build, with the Sportswear Club fleece being the reliable benchmark most other pieces track against. The catch is footwear: the toe box on running silhouettes like the Pegasus, Vomero, and Structure is deliberately narrow through the forefoot, while lifestyle models such as the Air Force 1, Dunk, and Blazer run a genuine half-size long. Women's shoe sizing is offset 1.5 down from men's, which is where most cross-gender orders go wrong, and the GS (grade school) size range effectively adds a third parallel chart for buyers in the 3.5Y–7Y crossover zone. Kids' apparel is drafted by height, not by age band, and matches published measurements more accurately than most competitors.
Common Sizing Mistakes
The single biggest return reason on Nike.com is ordering an Air Force 1 in the buyer's usual sneaker size — nine times out of ten it needs to come down half a size, and the Dunk Low behaves the same way. The second is treating Nike Pro compression gear like regular activewear; it's engineered to fit tight, and sizing up defeats the compression the fabric was designed to deliver. A third recurring error is assuming Jordan Brand shares the mainline Nike last — Air Jordan 1s run about half a size long, but Jordan 4s and 11s fit closer to true, so a blanket rule doesn't work across the line. Cross-gender buyers picking up women's Dunks in their men's size also routinely miss the 1.5-size conversion.
How Nike Compares
Against Adidas, Nike shoes tend to sit about half a size shorter and noticeably narrower through the midfoot — a Nike 10 is closer to an Adidas 10.5, and the difference is even more pronounced on running silhouettes than on lifestyle. Compared with New Balance, the difference is width more than length: New Balance offers true D/2E/4E widths, while Nike essentially only sells one width and calls it standard, which is why wide-footed runners tend to migrate away over time. On apparel, Nike Sportswear cuts fuller through the chest than Adidas Originals or Puma Classics, closer in silhouette to Champion or Reebok Classics, and a size below Carhartt WIP at the same label.
