    Fit Notes

Chuck Taylor All Stars are the well-known outlier of the sneaker world: they run a genuine half to full size long, and Converse itself recommends sizing down on its own product pages. The Chuck 70 was reissued on a slightly updated last and fits closer to true, though still a hair large, and its higher-density canvas doesn't relax as much with wear as the standard Chuck. One Star and Jack Purcell sit closest to true size and are the least confusing entry points to the brand. There is essentially only one width offered across the line, and the insole is thin — many buyers add a supportive insert rather than trying to fix fit with sizing.

    Common Sizing Mistakes

The dominant return reason is buying a Chuck Taylor in the buyer's real sneaker size — nearly always half a size too long, and the fabric doesn't shrink to compensate. The second is assuming the high-top and low-top fit identically; the high-top holds the heel more securely, which can make a borderline size feel better in the high than in the low. A third recurring mistake is treating the Chuck 70 and standard Chuck as the same shoe — the 70 has a slightly higher toe box and a thicker footbed, so a buyer's Chuck size doesn't always transfer cleanly.

    How Converse Compares

Converse Chucks run about a full size larger than Nike and roughly half a size larger than Vans Old Skools, which is why cross-shopping between the three requires deliberate resizing. Against Vans specifically, the two brands feel similar in length once the Converse is sized down, but Vans has a slightly more supportive footbed and a marginally wider toe box. Against Superga and Novesta — the closest European canvas comparisons — Converse runs a hair longer at the same US label.
